Disclosure: I received this through the First Reads giveaway.I enjoyed this memoir as much as I expected, and I had high expectations considering the role the author, Norma Yaeger, played in the women's movement over the years. I respect her for the chances she took in order to become successful, and the hard work and tough skin that was necessary as well. I would like to think I would have had the same courage she had and would have challenged societal norms at the time in order to advance a c [...]

What seems to be a story about a great and courageous woman falls short of being factual several times. The writing was uneven and felt more like someone took a sentence they heard her say and with creative liberties expanded on it in order to write this book. With a little research readers would learn of other women who did more than just survive during this time period when all women were treated as lesser beings. While I don't doubt she had a rough go at working in her selected job field, thi [...]

Living in today's society I think often we forget and take for granted how far women have come and how lucky we are to live in the world today. Women like Norma Yaeger paved the way and her compelling story in Breaking Down the Walls serves as a great inspirational reminder of this.Truth be told I have no interest in the New York Stock Exchange so I wasn't super excited to read this story. However, it wasn't buried in facts and statistics as I assumed. It was a heart warming story of this woman' [...]

Breaking Down the Walls is an understatement! I read this book in one afternoon/evening because Norma’s story was so intriguing I could not put it down. This is one unstoppable lady that is still setting the bar for the “you go girl” age. Fearless, courageous, independent, and even fierce, Norma never gave up in spite of the odds. Her innate business savvy took her to places previously unknown by women and she soared to new heights every step of the way. Her common sense method of negotiat [...]

This was a fantastic read. Norma tells you her life story about how she worked her way up in the financial world. Some parts tugged at my heart strings and other parts I was her biggest cheerleader. I got an education about how women were treated in a man's job years ago. I give this 4 stars.
